Journey in ‘el ZARZUELA EXPRESS’ is an anthology of zarzuela adapted to plucked string instruments. This lyrical gala has its national debut in Montanejos on October 12, intentionally coinciding with the festivity of Pilar Day and Hispanicity.
This is an unprecedented show designed by the MDM FEST exclusively for the VIII edition of the festival, under the artistic direction of Maryla Díaz Rodríguez.
The cast consists of a dozen international artists such as the mezzo-soprano Merilyn Cruz Acosta, the baritone Pedro Lluch, Josep Antoni Aparici “Apa” giving voice to the most traditional pieces, Rosmari Vidal Ferrero (dance), and in the musical formation stand out: Pedro Lluch (flute), Abel Sanabria (double bass), Diego Santiago (lute), Miguel Véliz (guitar) and Maryla Díaz Rodríguez (bandurria and artistic direction).
With the collaboration of the journalist Ángeles Hernández and the multifaceted artist Ximo Hernández, who will guide us through this special sound journey.
The show, approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes long, is a journey through time through the genre of zarzuela throughout the national territory with works as representative as “Agua, Azucarillo y Aguardiente”, “El pasacalle de la Dolores”, “Gigantes y cabezudos”, “El barberillo de Lavapiés”, “El Trust de los tenorios”, “La boda de Luis Alonso”, “El Guitarrico” and “La jota de la Dolores”, among others.
