La Alquería, a small hidden gem in the Valencian Community, is a municipality that, although often overlooked compared to its neighbor Montanejos, has a unique history and character. Interestingly, La Alquería was founded before Montanejos, although it may seem the other way around. The two towns are connected by a pedestrian sidewalk of less than one kilometer, allowing you to enjoy the tranquility of both in just a walk.

A town to get lost in
La Alquería preserves the layout of narrow and labyrinthine streets typical of its Arab heritage, which gives it a picturesque and authentic air. Walking through its streets is like traveling back in time, with each corner offering a perfect picture of the Mediterranean tradition. It is curious that all the streets in the historic center are Calle de los Desamparados, which leads visitors to wonder, how do the courier and delivery services manage?!

Historical heritage
In the heart of the town stands the Ermita de los Desamparados (Chapel of the Forsaken), its perfect state of preservation gives it historical and architectural value. Its bell tower, its portico and the tiles that adorn it are elements that attract the attention of visitors, making it one of the most emblematic points of the municipality.
The chapel, built in 1669, has a cozy interior with small chapels on the sides of its walls. On the main altar stands an image of the Virgen de los Desamparados, accompanied by figures of San José and the Inmaculada Concepción, placed on both sides. The floor is decorated with geometric figures, and the ceiling is a barrel vault with small windows that allow light to enter.
Outside, what is most striking is its baroque bell tower, added in the 18th century. This tower, which rises above the roof of the chapel, is a smaller version of the typical Valencian baroque bell towers.
As a decorative detail, the bell tower includes a base of tiles, dating from between the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries.
In addition, in 2017 the fountain that was in Campos de Arenoso was installed, as a tribute to this town that was under the waters of the reservoir.

Nature and relaxation
One of the best kept secrets of La Alquería is its pool, a natural corner that, although less known than the famous waters of Montanejos, offers an equally magical experience. Its tranquility and beauty make it a perfect destination for those looking to escape the tourist bustle.

Leisure and gastronomy
Life in La Alquería is completed with the brewery La Ermita, a place that lives up to its name with its charming chillout-style terrace. It is an ideal space to enjoy a drink or a meal while enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of the town.
The essence of the traditional
Despite the changes that have transformed many rural towns, La Alquería maintains the authentic and characteristic atmosphere of a small Mediterranean town. Its mix of history, nature and hospitality makes it a place worth visiting and discovering.

The festivals of La Alquería: the week of August 15
The festivals of La Alquería are dedicated to the Virgen de los Desamparados, which is August 15, and usually last a whole week and end with that day. In them, there are musical, bullfighting, gastronomic events, and much more, designed for all types of public.
In addition, the patron saint festivities of Montanejos, which begin on the first Sunday of September, dedicate one day (Tuesday) to the Virgen de los Desamparados, with a mass and its subsequent procession in the chapel.
